How to register a balcony photovoltaic system in the Market Master Data Register system

The registration of a balcony power plant (photovoltaic system for balconies) in the market master data register (MaStR) of the Federal Network Agency has been legally required since 2024 and must be done online within one month of commissioning. The process is free, takes about 15 minutes, and replaces the separate notification to the grid operator.

Requirements

Prepare the following: meter number (from electricity bill or meter), commissioning date, technical data (module output up to 2000 W, inverter output up to 800 W, manufacturer, serial number). The system must be certified; failure to register can result in fines of up to €50,000.

Step-by-step guide

• Go to www.marktstammdatenregister.de and click on "Registrierung einer Anlage oder eines Marktakteurs" (Registration of a system or market participant).

• Create a user account (email, personal data) and confirm via email link.

• Log in as an operator, select "Registrierung einer Solaranlage" (Registration of a solar system) > "Steckerfertige Solaranlage (Balkonkraftwerk)" (Plug-in solar system (balcony power plant)).

• Enter system data (location, power, meter), review and register – download the PDF confirmation.

The grid operator is automatically informed; update any changes later.
