The short answer is: No, it doesn't completely matter – but it is much simpler than many think.

When we talk about "any power outlet," we must distinguish between pure physical feasibility and electrical safety, as well as legal requirements in Germany. Theoretically, electricity flows through any standard household connection. Nevertheless, you should not blindly choose the first best outlet. The following factors play a crucial role:

  • The condition of the electrical installation: Older buildings (before 1990) often have wiring that is not designed for continuous peak loads. A balcony power plant continuously feeds electricity for hours. If the outlet is already corroded or the wiring is dilapidated, dangerous heat development can occur.

  • Moisture and weather: Since the solar system is located outdoors (balcony, terrace, flat roof), the power outlet must also be suitable for outdoor use. A normal indoor outlet should never be extended outdoors through an open window.
